Remaining focused and driven throughout the week can be tough, and easy to lose sight of goals and stay motivated. Striving to maintain that work/life balance is sometimes easier said than done, so we all have to find ways to stay grounded and remember what is important in life. When I’m feeling stressed out or just need a mid-week boost, here are a few things that inspire me to keep going:
Read motivational quotes – Whether I am at home or at work, I usually like to write down motivational quotes that really get me thinking and encourage me to go harder. At my desk, I keep two of my favorite Bible verses within eyesight to read when I’m feeling down:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil ,to give you a future and a hope” – Jeremiah 29:11
“God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind” – 2 Timothy 1:7
I am always seeking out catchy sayings that are easy for me to remember and drive me to keep moving.
Read self-improvement books – Making time to read is so important to learning. I will admit this is an area that I need to do better in, but when I find a book that captures my attention, I’m all in. Some of my favorite books that inspire me are: “Instinct” by T.D. Jakes, “Battlefield of the Mind” by Joyce Myers, and “How to Dream When You’re Told You’re Going to Die” by Diego Mesa. Reading about other peoples experiences and stories really help me to understand where I am at in life and where I want to go.
Watch TED Talk – I was recently introduced to TED Talk in a leadership course, and have been hooked ever since. I couldn’t believe all of the great speakers they host in open forums to discuss topics that affect each and every one of us. One of my favorite YouTubers, Bri Hall, was even recently invited to share her personal story about her journey. Another influential speaker on TED Talk, Brene Brown, has also made a name for herself, and her session called “The Power of Vulnerability” is one of the top five most played videos on their site with over 30 million views. I would highly encourage you to check them out.
Talk it out – I love meeting with other like-minded individuals who are looking to better themselves and reach their goals. By talking with other people, I gain another perspective on how to think about things or approach situations. Just hearing the excitement in their voice and seeing the spark in their eyes gives me an unexplainable feeling and adrenaline needed to move forward. Courage is contagious, and just an once of it can ignite an unrelenting force!
Travel to a new place – For me, traveling to new places to meet people and experience their culture is a great way to learn. I believe I am a very visual learner and have to be immersed in a place in order to fully understand the lifestyle. I look forward to trying the local foods, site seeing at historic landmarks, and seeing first-hand how everyone interacts with one another. It’s a great feeling to make new memories with the people we love, and to realize how truly blessed we are.
