Bright lights, city vibes, and BBQ. Memphis In May is the cities prime time to gather together to celebrate the beginning of Summer. This weekend was jam packed for the Beale Street Music Festival, and what an adventure it was.
*Full Disclaimer* For it being my first time in Memphis, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I had been told to be aware of my surroundings at all time and never go anywhere alone. Although the city isn’t huge, it still has some sketchy areas that you do not want to stumble upon. For a festival this size with some many headliner performances, I don’t think the city was fully equipped with the infrastructure needed to make travelers feel safe. Nevertheless, we made the most of our time and survived Memphis.
Aside from the difficulty of finding cell service to call an Uber, the actual Beale Street Music Festival was a ton of fun. The event was held at Tom Lee Park with an amazing view of the Mississippi River. We were so excited to see some of our favorite acts like Lil Dicky, G-Eazy, Khalid, Good Charlotte and Cardi B. The crowd danced along all day and night as we vibed to the music.
During the day, we got out early to explore this lively city full of history and culture. We enjoyed traveling through Midtown to the swanky bars and restaurants. My favorites had to be The Beauty Shop Restaurant, Slider Inn and Celtic Crossing Irish Pub. I love how everything was within walking distance of our AirBnB and lots of photo opps for us girls!
Of course we had to check out the infamous Beale Street and all of the cute shops. Cinco de Mayo on Beale Street was perfect for seeing how Memphis really likes to party. After buying a few souvenirs, we hit up a bar that was highly recommended called Silly Goose. I love the ambiance of the modern and sophisticated bar, and the drinks were so fresh and amazing. I would suggest trying the Cholo Love if you are into tequila for a nice island vibe.
Memphis In May is an experience that I will never forget. Hanging out with my girls and rocking out to some wonderful bands all weekend long is always a good time.
